WHAT is RSRC 4033?

RSRC 4033 is a ZERO-credit course for students engaged in faculty-mentored research, scholarly or creative (RSC) activities.

• Zero credit = Zero tuition cost

HOW do students enroll?

1. Fill out the form available on the COURI website
2. Faculty mentor signs form granting permission
3. Follow the steps in the form to register

For Faculty

Why should faculty get their RSC activity students enrolled?

There are several reasons the course was needed:

  1. Document mentoring for faculty merit evaluations
  2. Provide students with an official record of participation in research, scholarly and/or creative activities on their transcript
  3. Ability to accurately quantify the scale of undergraduate research at UTEP
  4. In concert with #3 above, investigate the impact undergraduate research participation
  5. Liability protection for you, the student and the university
  6. Provide students with access to optional professional development training (COURI Workshop Series)

Even if your student(s) enroll in for-credit research courses, please have them also enroll in RSRC 4033.
This course provides a unified datasource to document undergraduate research across all disciplines.

What are my responsibilities for this course?

  1. Assign a grade at the end of the semester: Satisfactory (S) or Unsatisfactory (U)
  2. Establish and maintain a healthy mentoring relationship

  1. Provide you with an official record of participation in research, scholarly and/or creative activities on your official transcript
  2. Gain access to professional development training via the COURI Workshop Series
  3. Help us accurately quantify the scale of undergraduate research at UTEP
  4. In concert with #3 above, help us investigate the impact undergraduate research participation
  5. Help your mentor by documenting your participation for their merit evaluations

Even if you enroll in for-credit research courses, please also enroll in RSRC 4033.
